Why does Christopher Nolan uses his structure?

The flashback's shows his situations and his journey. And the back and white scene only allows the audience to be in the scene with Lenny, which impacts us on not trusting anyone.
How does the play help development the character, plot and the scene film?
  •  The character having short term memory lost 
  • all the questions, shows he doesn't trust anybody. 
  • theme thriller.
  • there's puzzles, and the end makes more sense when we worked out the whole plot.
  • the character was very hard to be developed
  • he developed to become a killer throughout the play he has killed a lot of people, 
  • we've learn more bout the character, due Lenny is the false Hero and Teddy wasn't the villain as he became a victim.
